A Day in the Life of a Ladybird The Species: Seven-spot ladybird On a warm spring morning in the heart of Britain, a small dome of red rests on a stinging nettle leaf.  Beneath its polished wing cases lies a quiet, but very capable predator: the seven-spot ladybird, Britain’s most familiar and widespread ladybird species. To many people, ladybirds are symbols of luck or childhood curiosity. In reality, their daily lives are purposeful and industrious, centred on feeding, survival and reproduction. Early Morning: Warming the Wings At dawn, the ladybird remains still. As a cold-blooded insect, it depends on external warmth to become active.
